Chapter 19: A Baby’s Turn
The ceremony for Deon was held the following Sunday. Yvette sat on the front row weeping. She never thought she could feel this much pain. She really loved Deon and hates how things turned out but knew it was time to start back dating. With no body they could only have a service for mourning. Candles were lit and pictures were set up in the pulpit showing happy memories of him. Things were starting out okay with her and Troy. He finalized his divorce working to build a relationship with Yvette.
She checks the application on her phone one more time. It reads that she is past due for her period.
“I am a couple days late. I better go get a test just in case I need to use it.” She says. Yvette had made a stop by the local store and prepares herself for reality. She will deal with whatever the results are. Negative or positive she ponders.
How would she handle the results? She didn’t know.
“Hey Monae. I am worried. I have not come on my cycle yet. I went to the store. I am nervous as hell. Where are you?” she asks.
“Hey Eve. I just finished class and I am heading over Porter’s house. Why don’t you come over here? You can take the test over here. We will figure things out and we can have a girl luncheon by the pool.” Monae answers.
“Okay. I am on my way.” Yvette tells her.
Finally arriving at Porter’s place she can see some guys outside washing cars.
“Well that’s just great. I have a freaking Walgreens bag these fools will be running their mouths.” She says to herself. She forces the bag and its contents into her purse thankful that she wore her Coach tote today.
“Hi Eve park your car over there and Vick will wash it up for you.” Porter shouts to her before she parks her car. She nods her head glad that she has the bag tucked away especially since he is here.
“Hey Mack P. It’s good seeing you.” Yvette greets walking up to him. He puffs on a Cuban cigar talking to a few of his men. She could tell they were drug dealers by their posture. It was something Deon possessed as well.
Monae walks out of the house to wave her over.
“Girl don’t stop to talk to them. You are here for me.” She jokes. Yvette thanks her for saving her. Hilda, the maid, approaches them with two cups of Moscato.
“For you ladies” Hilda announces.
“Thank you” the women said in unison.
“Damn I would be spoiled if I have this kind of life. What a sister got to do to get me one of these?” Yvette asks.
“Seriously this is nice. When do I move in? I can pick out my bedroom now?” she continues. Monae laughs and they walk up the spiral staircase to a guest bedroom.
“We can go in here where we can have some privacy. Use the bathroom in here.” She tells her. Yvette walks into a marble floored bathroom with beautiful blue granite counters and trimmings.
